SDGs, Accessibility and Urban Change in Kisumu Region

A contribution to knowledge about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is considered as critical in appreciating positive drives towards urban change. KLIP will be looking at the SDGs in so far as they relate to issues of accessibility; spatial, temporal and communication. The activity will take both a cross-sectional and longitudinal approach to give a comprehensive picture of Kisumu. The purpose is to contribute to comparative study on Accessibility and Urban Change In Kisumu region within the framework of SDGs. 

The project will also consider strategies for developing Eco-Cities with the understanding that the move towards sustainable cities or eco-cities is tied to the SDGs. How well cities work towards ensuring sustainable growth in an environment of competing resources will be the driver of this activity area. The aim is to work with the County Government and the City Management in developing a policy towards an EcoCity. The team is striving at building on the progress made in 2016 and 2017 to prepare a policy paper for adoption by City Management.
