Understanding Legal and Political Framework of Governance for Sustainable Growth in Kisumu

The team intends to assess the governance systems in the county and how these can help improve the operations and capacity of the devolved governance structures in improving overall performance of the county. The main aim is to provide a framework for understanding legal and political framework of governance for sustainable growth in Kisumu. Review of urban designs and planning documents has been ongoing with a view to develop a policy paper on participatory planning and design these include for policy briefs on: 

• Legal basis for sustainable growth 
• Political basis for sustainable growth 
• Responsive governance for urban growth 
• Transition in governance system in Kisumu within the national framework 

The development of the research should lead to publication of papers with one expected in 2017 drawing on experiences from Kisumu.
