The Swedish city of Uppsala has been designated Global Climate City 2018.

In competition with 123 cities and 23 countries, in a remarkable achivement, the city of Uppsala was awarded first place in the WWF's international One Planet City Challenge.

The international jury highlights the city of Uppsala as a role model in the world, making good leadership in Climate Action.

David Simon, Director of Mistra Urban Futures, is one of 19 prominent urban sustainability specialists from various international organisations and companies comprising the jury panel for the One Planet City Challenge:

“Uppsala stands out as a secondary city that takes its sustainability very seriously, having developed and refined a coherent and integrated strategy over many years, with considerable involvement of residents.”

The jury appreciated Uppsala's sophisticated cross-sector sustainability interventions, as well as its strong leadership in the surrounding region.

Vancouver (2013), Cape Town (2014), Seoul (2015), Paris (2016).
