Housing Competition at World Urban Forum 7

The winners of the Urban Revitalization of Mass Housing Competition will be announced at World Urban Forum 7 in Medellín, Colombia on April 7th. The competition is initiated by UN-Habitats Global Housing Strategy campaign Placing Housing at the Center with Mistra Urban Futures as one of the partners.

Over 750 teams of university students from 94 countries and 244 universities have entered the competition. Of the 750 teams, 12 are from Sweden, 28 from United Kingdom, 10 from South Africa and 12 from Kenya.

The goal of the competition is to address the challenges of mass housing through proposals to revitalize a mass housing locality in one’s respective city. The task is to make the localities more socially, economically and environmentally sustainable by integrating mixed uses, improving densities and mobility, and reducing their eco-footprint. Lars Reuterswärd, former Director at Mistra Urban Futures is one of the members in the international jury.
