International Green Campus Alliance

The Green Campus Alliance is holding its inaugural meeting today October 25th in Chongqing, China. Lars Reuterswärd, Director at Mistra Urban Futures is an invited Committee Member and Chalmers University of Technology is one of the member universities.

China Green Building Council together with universities and institutes worldwide has taken the initiative to set up the International Green Campus Alliance. The Alliances aims to strengthen cooperation and exchange among universities, middle and primary schools. The aim is also to enhance innovation, promote joint research and energy efficient technologies for campuses and their surroundings.

Professor WU Zhiqiang, Vice President, Tongji University is the Director of the China Green Campus Committee. Tongji University is Mistra Urban Futures partner in Shanghai. Other Committee members include WANG Qingqin, Secretary General, China Green Building Council, Åsa Isacsson, UN Habitat and Irina Bokova, UNESCO.

About Green Campuses

The potential behind Green campuses is in the possibility to not only build single green buildings but whole green communities and smart cities. Key aspects that should be implemented when building new constructions or reconstructions at campuses are energy efficiency, water efficiency, material efficiency and land efficiency. The Green Campus can also function as a lab and pilot zone for intelligent urbanization.
