Access to the city through culture and technology

Innovative technologies will make it possible for all citizens to participate in new kinds of museum visits. The project “Funktek – co-creative museum development” has been granted 2.78 million SEK from The Swedish Inheritance Fund Commission.

The project will develop new methods for co-creation and participatory experiences, with a special focus on persons with certain needs and how they can become part of developing the city. Above all, it is a question of democracy. Everyone should be able to participate in dialogues about the city, its history and future. One main focus in the project is therefore to look upon how technology can contribute to a democratic sustainable urban development.

Technologies for new, innovative ways to participate in city walks, exhibitions and public debates will be developed. But exactly how the solutions will look like is not clear yet. That will be developed together with a broad group of young people with different special needs.

- Culture and technology makes it possible to include more people in both the city and its development. But one challenge we face is to get decision-makers to understand the importance of culture in societal development. One of the goals is to change how the public space is planned and decided upon, both nationally and internationally, says Per Myrén, project manager for Mistra Urban Futures part in Funktek.

The project Funktek is managed by the Göteborg City Museum in cooperation with Mistra Urban Futures, Utopia, Changemaker AB, The Swedish Exhibition Agency and Interactive Institute Swedish ICT. It will start immediately and has been granted funds for one year with a possibility for continued funding.
